Witches Kitchen Gothic Decorating Theme
Concepts: Mystical, Spells, Nature, Crystals, StonesMain Colors: Purple, Green, Silver Accents Materials: Shimmering fabrics, Plants, Variety of Colored Candles, Glass "Potion" Bottles For the walls, start with a base paint color of a light to medium purple. You can use a flat color, or we prefer a stoned look by sponge painting with one shade lighter than your base. A more dramatic effect can be created with different variations of purple by hand painting the outline of larger stones to create a chamber-like atmosphere. Stencil designs at the top of the walls with patterns of green vines or silver abstract swirls. Another idea is to use a thick glitter/glue pen, however, this may prove to be difficult to scrape off later, should you hate the idea. Use at your own risk... It should look natural and very earthy. Curtains should be a light shimmering fabric, such as iridescent Halloween prints with cats or stars. Any metallic colored Satin would suffice as well. Choose whimsical plant hangers and pots for herbs, ivy, ferns, pothos - any vine-type plants you adore. Create mysticism using crystals wherever they will reflect the greatest amount of light. Use wire to wrap around individual pieces, then string together over a window, and place near candles. We love natural stones, such as bloodstones and adventurine which we use to place over dirt in plants, in jars and bottles, and around pillar candles. Furniture should be natural wood, and not too decorative in design. Use old tables and alters, and maybe benches instead of chairs. You are lucky if you have old appliances - the avocado green or orange/gold colors, or new stainless steel, because they will blend in a little nicer. Otherwise you may have to find a way to dress up your appliances to better fit your design. Good artwork for this room would be scenic or empowering animals. You will need a lot of small shelves in the kitchen to hold a variety of candles, glass bottles, apothecary jars, and appropriate figurines to complete the decor. Check your local flea markets and yard sales for vintage looking bottles of random sizes, styles, and colors. Some of the pre-filled bottles with vinegar, foods, or oil could work as well. They are in almost every kitchen section of major department stores. Maybe label one with olives in it “Eyes of Newt.” Hopefully, your guests won't worry what you are whipping up for dinner in the kitchen... Back to Full List of Articles |
