Oriental Gothic Bedroom Decorating Theme Concepts: Dark, Ancient, Romance Main Colors: Cream, Black, Ruby Red, Jade Green Materials: Satin, Gloss Sealer, Rice or Tracing Paper, Wooden Rods The walls are the main focus, as you begin by painting the walls a mix of cream and ivory. One of the walls is turned into an oversized scroll. Hang long wooden circular rods on both the top and bottom, centered on one wall. Hang red tassles on each end of the rods. Use a thin brush dipped in black paint to draw in the edges of the scroll between the rods to look like a sheet of paper. Then draw Kanji characters, Chinese astrology symbols, or a landscape mural to complete your project. If you don't want to paint on the wall, buy a few yards of painter's canvas fabric to hang in between. Furniture should be dark wood, or painted black with a high-shine gloss. Knobs and handles painted silver, and use a jade green color to trace bamboo leaves, a carved jade dragon design, amulets, old coins, etc. For the non-painters, cut out pictures from magazines or posters, spread a thin layer of glue to the back and apply to painted furniture when dry. Then, gloss over the pictures to preserve them. Lighting can be minimal, with small candles and oil lamps. Curtains for this room are heavy satin and brocade styles. Deep to a ruby red color, patterned with smaller designs. Tie back with thick corded black tassles, or garlands of silk black roses. Our Gothic inspiration for this room comes from dragons, Geisha faces or masks, and elemental features. We had a dragon comforter, masks on the walls, and each of the 5 Eastern elements included (Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, and Metal). One in each corner, and one centrally located. For example, display various objects such as candles, demon figurines, and flames for fire grouped together.
